This update comes just about two weeks after gavagai.com went online and became publicly accessible. Activity on the site is intentionally at a minimum while we tease out the remaining bugs and smooth out some of the rough edges.
Since the release, there have been a load of cosmetic and functional improvements. The three biggest changes include support for public content, Twitter integration, and support for scene splintering.
Gavagai now supports public content - if you'd like your profile, works, portfolios, and scenes to be visible to the world at large, you can opt to do that on the edit page. Users still have to log in to Gavagai to comment on an item, however. Allowing content to be public may seem like a no-brainer, but there are some security issues that we needed to resolve to make sure the experience was a satisfying one.
For Twitter users, you can now optionally issue a tweet when you add or update an item on Gavagai. Gavagai will automatically generate a short link to the new or updated content.
Finally, scene splintering is something that we wanted to do since way back when the site was barely beyond the idea stage. When you find a scene that almost - but not quite - seems like a perfect fit, you can splinter it - create a new scene that has some of the character of the original scene and some of your character. It's a great way to form a breakaway movement from one that already exists!
We'll be adding new functionality in the coming days and weeks. To get notifications of new site features, follow us on Twitter.
