the basics

Gavagai was built for artists and people who love their work. To encourage that, Gavagai emphasizes openness over fine-grained control of who can see your works, packages and profile. Other community sites similar to Gavagai have a different purpose and allow you to control who sees what, when. On Gavagai, your profile and the content you post is visible to other users on the site.

All that being said, there is a limit to that openness! Gavagai will never display or release your email address or password. Also, the tags you rate when you build your profile are considered confidential - they are never shown to anyone but you. Gavagai also supports private messages between users - these can not be seen by any other users on the site except you and the senders or recipients.

Gavagai currently allows only logged-in Gavagai users to view profiles, works and packages on the site. However, this may change in future versions of the site. Any changes will be reflected in the privacy policy.

This Pricvacy Policy exists to explain how your personal information is used on Gavagai at www.gavagai.com (also referred to as "the site"). If you register for an account at Gavagai, you are subject to the Privacy Policy.

Gavagai requires an email address to join. Gavagai will periodically send emails to this address for registration validation, forgotten passwords, and other typical user management tasks. Depending on whether or not you opt to receive them, Gavagai may also send notification emails describing special offers or site enhancements.

When logged in to Gavagai, the site will set a "cookie" in you browser. This cookie maintains your state on the site - it lets the site know what user you are and that you're logged in. Gavagai uses cookies for session management only. If you check the "remember me on this computer" box on the home page, the cookie will still be there after you close the browser so that you'll stay logged in. If you uncheck the box, the cookie will be removed when you close the browser.

In the course of using Gavagai, you might post works, send messages or comment on the profiles or works of others. This information is maintained on the site until you decide to remove it. Once posted, a work may be deleted at any time. Comments can be removed by you or the owner of the work or profile being commented on. Messages to you stay in your inbox until deleted. Messages sent from you remain with the recipient until deleted. To ensure uninterrupted operation in the event of a failure, Gavagai maintains backups of the site for a suitable period of time.

When you post a work or comment or enter information into your profile, you do so at your own risk. Gavagai makes every effort to maintain the integrity of your personal information and to limit the viewing of your profile and works to logged-in users only; however, no level of security is foolproof. Gavagai is not ultimately responsible for any security breaches that might occur. Gavagai is also not responsible for cached or duplicated content.

Gavagai allows you to invite other users to use the site. This information is stored for the duration required to send the email. It is not stored and invitation reminders are not issued. However, the email address will still be present in the suite's "sent mail" records.

By using Gavagai, you are consenting to have your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States of America.

integration with other services

Gavagai works with other services such as Bit.ly, Facebook and Twitter. In some cases, Gavagai may request that you provide authentication information for these services. For your protection, Gavagai does not currently store usernames and passwords used to access these services, but requires that they be entered each time they are used. If available, Gavagai will use tools provided by the external Web services. In this case, the responsibility for security lies completely with the service provider. In those instances in which Gavagai provides the authentication mechanism, we will use secure protocols to ensure your information is never compromised.
