we are looking for someone with an eye for aesthetics to make our site look pretty. Gavagai was designed by geeks, whose understanding of beauty tends to revolve around the algorithmic rather than the visual. we'd like to enlist the help of someone who does have that vision.

what we're looking to do is select the colors for the site, redesign the icons, change the fonts, and possibly do some radical things with the layout (though a lot of the code is dependent on the layout, so flexibilty there may be kind of limited). we want to reuse our logo but aren't married to it.

the ideal candidate will have a good eye for design including font and color selection, layout, and usability (interaction). ideally we want somone who is familiar enough with html and css to actually build a workable mockup of the site. you don't have to write any code beyond the html and css. just a mockup with lorem ipsum text is fine with us, we'll do the job of integrating it into the overall structure. if you aren't able to do the html and css coding but have a design that blows us away, we can work with that, too.

this is a freelance one-off offer, not a staff position, meaning that if we use your design we will pay you for it and then that's pretty much it. however, when we add new functionality to the site we would really like to go back to the original designer for new designs, so this job could spawn others down the road.
