gavagai is an online community for musicians and writers to connect with each other and their audience, and for their audience to connect with them. gavagai learns what you like and helps you find the signal in all the noise.
gavagai uses a sophisticated matching system to pair you with the people, works, and scenes you like. gavagai figures out what you like based on the scenes you join, the ratings you give to works and portfolios, and the people you connect with. the more you use the site, the better your matches will get! whenever you see anything on gavagai with a red and black bar underneath it, you are seeing how well it matches your preferences - all black means a perfect match, while all red means a match that's not so good.
gavagai is first and foremost a community. you can connect with other users on the site and join scenes with others you share common interests with. gavagai helps you to find people to connect with by showing you users who will match your interests best.
everyone in the gavagai community is encouraged to post their works! gavagai supports audio works and text works. audio works can be in any style or genre. all users are given about 5 gigabytes of storage space for audio works. text works can be anything from poetry to reviews to short stories to blog posts.
portfolios are places to group works that have a common theme. portfolios are like albums, playlists, or anthologies. you can add any number of audio or text works to a portfolio.
scenes are groups or movements that share a common philosophy. scenes can be music genre-based like "pop" or "rap," or they can be regional like "southern rock" or "washington, dc hardcore." they can also be based on literary trends like "science fiction" or "verse." it's really up to the scene's creator.
