1980s and 1990s Gothic Pop celebrates the dark-tinged pop released in the late 1980s and early 1990s - all those bands shaped by the Cure, the Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, the entire stable of 4AD artists, and so many others. Never dark enough (on the surface, at least) to descend to the despair of goth rock proper, these bands and all who followed in their footsteps always retained a pop sensibility that always made being morose danceable and fun to sing along with.
